PHP 8.4 comes to us!

Published on monday 19 february 2024 21:25

overview
The PHP 8.4 update is coming. How do we as Webmotion deal with this? And what does this mean for our customers?

No worries for our customers

On November 28, 2022, worldwide support for the penultimate version of PHP* - PHP7.4 will expire. An important update, because it affects the operation of websites and online portals, among other things. In short, this means that the current version of PHP will make way for PHP8. This means that there will be no more security updates for PHP7.4 and that from then on this version will entail significant security risks. We will therefore no longer supply and/or support this version.

Fortunately for Webmotion customers, there is no need to worry: our developers have already worked hard in recent months to make all websites and tools compatible with this important server update. As of the end of August, all our customers have already switched to PHP8 and everything has been tested and working. So they don't have to worry in November when global support finally expires.

Proactive: no interruptions for our customers

It is not without reason that our developers have been working hard on this update in recent months. Since the operation of a new PHP version also changes, the compatibility of a website must also be worked on. These changes in operation must be made before the version expires. Otherwise, a website or application will simply break down.

It is important to know that we had already implemented 75% of the adjustments without interruptions or action by our customers.
